MAGNETIC FIELD: a condition of space in the vicinity of a magnetic or current-carrying substance, manifesting itself as a force on a moving charge or magnetic pole within the spaces.

MAGNETIC POLE: 1. the region of a magnet toward which the lines on induction converge (South Pole) or from which the line of induction diverge (North Pole). 2. either of two points on the Earth’s surface where the dipping needle of a compass stands vertical, one in the Arctic, the other in the Antarctic. NORTH POLE: 1. Geog. the end of the Earth’s axis of rotation marking the northernmost point on the earth. 2. Astron. The point at which the extended axis of the Earth cuts the northern half of the celestial sphere, about one degree from the North Star; the North Celestial Pole. 3. the pole of a magnet that seeks the Earth’s North Magnetic Pole.

MAGNETIC AXIS: Physics. a straight line connecting and extending through the poles of a magnet.
